iOS Remote Control
Remote Control allows you to control Anytune through MIDI devices, Bluetooth keyboards (music and computer) and other Remote Controllers like AirTurn or PageFlip.
See iRig BlueBoard Remote Control and AirTurn MIDI Remote Controls Setup.
You can try the functionality before buying. See the ‘Demo Mode’ below.
You must purchase the Remote Control Add-On in Anytune to enable Bluetooth or MIDI remote capabilities in Anytune Freemium or Pro+.
- Tap and purchase the Remote Control Pack
MIDI Remote Control support is included with Anytune Mac.
Watch this video to see how to use Remote Control and the PlayNext feature to create an interactive backing player.
Anytune can be configured to map Bluetooth key presses, MIDI Control and Key On Commands to Anytune actions.
To use Bluetooth Keyboard Remote Control:
- Pair your (Bluetooth) controller to your device (iPhone, iPad).
- Select a compatible mode on your controller. (see step 4)
Example: AirTuen PED Mode 2 Up/Dn == Anytune Profile ↑↓
On Anytune: - Go to Settings > Remote Control
- Set the Remote Control Profile to match your controller
- In Remote Control Port Settings, select the commands that Anytune will perform for each key press message received.
Note: Many BT remote controllers become the keyboard when connected preventing the on screen keyboard from appearing. Only one app can control the keyboard. Anytune must be in the foreground when using a BT remote control that sends keyboard messages.
When using a Bluetooth computer keyboard, select the "Anytune (Mac) Keyboard" profile. Once selected, you can use the Keyboard shortcuts (for remote control).
To use MIDI Controller (or MIDI Keyboard):
Most MIDI controllers have an app that runs on your device to receive BT messages from the controller and convert them into MIDI commands. First install this app and connect your MIDI controller. These apps act as a bridge and must be running in the background.
You can also connect MIDI Devices to your Apple Device through USB.
Anytune listens for MIDI Control Change messages and Key On messages. Anytune IGNORES MIDI Program Change messages and Key Off messages.
Anytune listens and responds to MIDI messages while in the background.
You can use keys on your MIDI Keyboard for remote controlling Anytune.
In Anytune:
- Go to Settings > MIDI
- Toggle "Enable MIDI In" to enabled.
- Select Channel (to receive)
Note: Anytune may receive multiple commands from a single pedal press if Anytune is using the OMNI (All Channels) and your controller is sending on multiple channels.
- Tap Channel Controllers and adjust the Command/Controller number (e.g. 003) to match controller's settings or keyboard key (e.g. C # 4)
OR
Tap "Learn MIDI Controller" and then tap the button on the controller to send the command to Anytune and have it set automatically.
Anytune ignores the data values for most commands. Tap the Anytune command in Anytune > Settings > Channel Controllers to see if the data is used.
Most MIDI controllers (pedal boards) sending MIDI Control Change messages default to latch or command mode. The message's data field alternates between On (127) and Off (0) on each press. Anytune ignores the data for most messages and treats both messages the same. One press to Play and one press to Pause for example.
Some MIDI controllers can send a command on press and another on release. This will not currently work with Anytune. Use latch or command mode.
Mac Remote Control
Note: The iRig BlueBoard is currently not compatible with M1 (Apple Silicon) systems. This include most new Macs.
See Is my M1 macOS system compatible with IK Products? 🙁
IKMultimedia says "We do not have an exact date at the moment but our team is diligently working on updating all of our software to be updated to work soon."
Airturn's BT 500 series is compatible with M1/M2 (Apple Silicon). See AirTurn MIDI Remote Controls Setup. Shop Airturn Pedals.
Anytune Mac can receive MIDI commands and convert them to Anytune actions.
Anytune listens for MIDI Control Change messages. Anytune DOES NOT listen for MIDI Program Change messages.
You will likely need a Mac App to receive and convert BT messages to MIDI commands provided by your controller manufacturer. Then you can map Anytune actions to MIDI Controller Commands. These apps act as a bridge and must be running in the background.
In Anytune for Mac:
- Anytune menu > Settings > MIDI
- Check Enable MIDI In
- Choose the Channel (to receive)
Note: Anytune may receive multiple commands from a single pedal press if Anytune is using the OMNI (All Channels) and your controller is sending on multiple channels.
- Click Name of the Action to want to set in the Channel controllers list.
- Select the Controller Command number to match the value sent by the remote controller in the selector.
OR
Tap "Learn" and then tap the button on the controller to send the command to Anytune and have it set automatically.
Bluetooth Controllers
You can use a Bluetooth keyboard to remotely control Anytune using the Keyboard shortcuts (for remote control).
Most Bluetooth remote control devices are essentially very small BT keyboards which send keyboard presses to the connected device. This works great if you need to page up and down of a slide presentation. However, BT remote controls are generally not useful on Mac.
These remote controls have a fixed set of keyboard commands which do not useful actions on Anytune. Anytune Mac does not provide a facility map keyboard commands to Anytune commands.
The AirTurn PED/Pro does allow you to assign pedals to specific keys. For Example you can use Mode 5 where the left pedal is Space Bar for Play/Pause and then assign the right pedal to "L" for enabling disabling looping.
Use iPhone/iPad to send MIDI to Mac
You can use your iPad/iPhone as a remote control.
- Plug your iPad/iPhone to your Mac
- Open the "Audio MIDI Setup" app
- Click the "Enable" button (under iPad/iPhone in the device list)
Now you can send MIDI commands to the Mac from the iPad/iPhone
Use an app like MIDI Wrench to send MIDI commands to the Mac and Anytune.
Demo mode
You can enable Demo Mode for both MIDI and USB Remote Control functions to try before you buy. In Anytune:
- Go to Settings > MIDI
- Tap Start MIDI Demo
or
- Go to Settings > Remote Control
- Start Remote Control Demo
The Remote Control functionality will be enabled for 2 minutes and then disabled.
