If Anytune is displaying duplicate or different playlists than those shown in Apple's Music app, there may be inconsistencies within Apple Music’s internal database. Unfortunately, these issues can be difficult to correct. In the past, users have resolved them by rebuilding their Apple Music library or after updating macOS.
You may try rebuilding your music library. This process can eliminate database-related issues, but it carries risks if not done carefully.
If you are using Sync Library, your Apple Music content, playlists, and iTunes Store purchases should re-sync to the new library. However, please be aware of the following:
- Metadata loss: Play counts, star ratings, and custom artwork may not be restored.
- Playlist loss: If Sync Library was disabled and you didn’t export your playlists, they will be lost.
- Sync conflicts: If iCloud has outdated or mismatched data, you may need to manually resolve duplicates or incorrect items.
- Loss of Match/Upload status: Matched or uploaded songs may need to be reprocessed by Apple Music.
If you are not using Sync Library, you will need to manually rebuild your library (see steps below).
Rebuild Your Apple Music Library
This can help remove outdated or hidden playlists that Apple Music may still be referencing.
- Verify Sync Library is enabled: Open Music > Settings > General and confirm that Sync Library is checked. Wait until any "Updating" status clears.
If you're not using Sync Library or want a manual backup of your playlists:- Open the Music app.
- Select a playlist.
- Go to File > Library > Export Playlist…
- Save the playlist as a .xml or .m3u file. Repeat for each playlist you want to back up.
- Quit the Music app.
- Rename the library folder: In Finder, go to
~/Music/and renameMusic Library.musiclibraryto something likeMusic Library.old.musiclibrary. - Reopen the Music app. A new, empty library will be created automatically.
- Re-enable Sync Library: Go to Music > Settings > General and confirm Sync Library is enabled. Your Apple Music content should reappear once syncing is complete.
Restore local files and playlists:- Drag your backed-up music files or folders into the Music app.
- Go to File > Library > Import Playlist… to re-import your saved .xml or .m3u playlists.
