Anytune plays songs directly from your device’s music library, but you can also use Anytune without accessing the device's library.
Adding Songs to Anytune Mac
You can import songs into Anytune in the following ways:
- Choose Anytune > File > Add to Anytune...
- Right-click a music file and select Open with Anytune
- Drag song files from a folder or directly from iTunes onto a playlist in Anytune
Go to Anytune > Preferences > Advanced to adjust import behavior. You can choose whether to play imported songs from their original location or to copy them into Anytune’s storage. Copying ensures the song remains available even if removed from its original location.
Songs stored within Anytune are not directly accessible in the file system.
Right-click a song in a list or the title and choose Get Info to view its location.
If the song is stored outside Anytune, you’ll see the full path and a [Show in Finder] button.
If it’s stored internally, a [Export Original Song...] button will be available.
Anytune can play songs from external drives, but it must have permission to access the folder or drive containing the file. You’ll typically be prompted once to grant access, which will then be remembered for that folder or drive.
Hiding iTunes Categories
You can hide the iTunes categories (Songs, Artists, Playlists, and Albums) in the song list:
- Hover over the ITUNES section in the Songs panel
- Click Disclosure
Auto-Sync
By default, Anytune automatically syncs with your iTunes / Music app library when launching or switching to Anytune. Syncing ensures Anytune has the latest contents from your music library.
- Click the
Refresh button below the song list or select Anytune > Sync with iTunes to initiate a manual sync.
You’ll see "iTunes Sync Complete" in the lower-left message bar when the sync finishes.
Disabling Auto-Sync
- Go to Anytune > Preferences > Advanced and uncheck “Automatically sync with iTunes / Music app when you switch to Anytune.”
Currently, the Music Library does not provide change notifications to apps. We have submitted enhancement requests to Apple and hope to see improvements in a future update.
